How the 2-of-3 escrow works to buy and sell Monero

A P2P market where the Monero is never in the hands of a single party: not the seller's, not the buyer's, not ours.

  1. Create your account

Choose a nickname and a password. Your account key is created in your browser; download the backup.

  2. Pick an ad or post your own

Filter by currency, amount, method and country. Each ad shows price, limits, payment window and the advertiser's reputation.

  3. The 2-of-3 escrow is set up

When the order opens, the buyer's and seller's browsers and the arbiter create a Monero multisig address. Keep the tab open for a moment.

  4. The seller deposits

They have 30 minutes. After 10 confirmations (about 20 min) the XMR is locked. If they don't deposit, the order cancels itself.

  5. The buyer pays

Off-platform, with the ad's method, to the details the seller put in the order. Then marks “I have paid”.

  6. The seller confirms and releases

They check their account and release. The Monero transaction goes from the escrow to the buyer's wallet, and the fee to the platform.

  7. If something goes wrong: appeal

15 minutes after the payment is marked, either side can appeal. Support reviews the chat and the proofs and signs with one of the parties.

What is a 2-of-3 escrow?

It is a multisig Monero address with three keys: one for the buyer, one for the seller and one for the arbiter. Moving the money takes two. So the seller cannot take the XMR back after you paid, and the arbiter cannot move it alone.

Why isn't the XMR locked when the ad is posted?

Because the escrow needs the buyer's key, which does not exist yet. Locking it earlier would require someone to hold the money. Instead: only ads from online sellers can be taken, the buyer pays only once the XMR is locked, and sellers who fail to deposit get paused.
